Palestinian Non-Violent Resistance: A Viable Option for Winning a Two State Peace?

Tuesday, April 26, 2005, 8:30 a.m. - 10:00 a.m.

Carnegie Endowment, 1st Floor Choate Room 1779 Massachusetts Ave., NW

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas has called for an end to Palestinian violence against Israel as a weapon of struggle and has invited Israel to renew negotiations for a genuine two-state peace. He and Israeli Prime Minister Sharon have called for a cease-fire. If negotiations that promise an end to unilateral actions, security and peace, based on a viable, contiguous Palestinian state with a capital in East Jerusalem do not come about, will non-violent resistance by the Palestinians succeed in changing the dynamic?

Sami Awad, Director of the Holy Land Trust in Bethlehem, is a leading philosopher, practitioner, and organizer of non-violent political action.

**Coffee, doughnuts and macaroons will be served**

Please RSVP to the Foundation for Middle East Peace with your name, e-mail address, and your affiliation.
